Abstract:In order to know lead contamination in fishes, crustaceans and bivalve mollusks in China,Thirteen monitoring sites from 10 provinces were selected to conduct the surveillance of lead in aquatic foods in 2002.The results showed that lead contamination of fish in our country were not severe.Lead levels in fish, crustaceans and bivalve mollusks met both the national criteria and the levels proposed by CAC.As the main economic fishes were excluded in the monitoring program, the data obtained in this study was a bit different from the actual levels for lead in these fishes.Lead surveillance in aquatic products is strongly recommended so as to get the natural occurrence of this heavy metal, and make our contributions to the establishment of international maximum levels for lead in associated foods as well.It should point out that the lead levels in aquatic products in 2002 was three times higher than that of the past decade, although it did not exceed our national criteria.
