Abstract:In order to find out the circumstance of the imported health foods in China, the export countries, the quantities of import, the compositions, the main effects and functional ingredients of the imported functional foods were analyzed. The United States was the most important export country, health foods exported from it accounted for 61% of all the imported products. The import health foods contained 5 kinds of functional ingredients: plant extracts, classical nutrients, single function materials, animal or plant oils and animal extracts. All the products claimed 25 kinds of health function, mainly nutrition supplement, enhancing immunity and alleviating physical fatigue. Definite functional components were claimed in 63% of the import health foods. The results indicated that the policy of guidance of the import of health foods should be strengthened, so as to meet the health need of the Chinese people.
