In order to know the situation of organphosphorus pesticide residues in vegetables and fruits in Beijing, a survey was performed in 2002. 354 samples including 281 vegetables and 73 fruits were collected to detect 13 kinds of organphosphorus pesticides. The results indicated that 7.6% of these samples was not up to national standards. The unqualified rates of leafy and root-stem vegetables (9.3%and 17.4%, respectively) were higher than those of melon vegetables and fruits (2.4% and 4.1%, respectively) significantly. Among all the 13 kinds of organophosphorus pesticides, 12 were detected in this survey, and 53% of them are prohibited from being used in planting of vegetables and fruits according to relevant law and regulation. The unqualified rate of locally grown plants did not differ from that of ones imported from other regions, and the rates were similar for the goods being sold in different types of markets.
