Abstract:More and more rural families in China held feasts at home for festival, marriage, birthday, funeral or celebration. In some feasts, food borne illness broke out because of sanitary problems in the process of food preparation. The main sanitary problems in rural family feasts included: (1) food processing equipment were simple and crude, (2) processing place was narrow, (3) mobile cooks knew little about food hygiene knowledge , (4) food processing methods did not meet the sanitary requirements,(5) the management of the mobile cooks was difficult because they were always migratory. The author suggests that the health administrative department should make regulations and sanitory requirements for rural family feasts,register the rural mobile cooks,examine their health status regularly, train and instruct them in food hygiene knowledge to ensure the safety of rural family feasts.
