Abstract:To study the present situation of the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of Beijing urban residents to genetically modified (GM) foods, 901 urban residents were randomly selected in Beijing for survey. It was found that: (1) Awareness rate of GM foods are products of biotechnology was 72.7%, and the understanding increased with educational level. (2) 63.1% of interviewees agreed that GM foods will have a positive effect upon life in the future, while 6.1% believed in that GM foods have negative future effects; 61.9% of interviewees believed in that GM foods will be widely used and the rate increased with educational level and decreased with age. (3) Rate of buying GM foods in optimists was 41.8%, which was the highest in all interviewees, while 18.7% held a pessimistic view. Rate of buying GM foods decreased with age and had no correlation with education and sex. Price of GM foods had some effect on the rate of buying. It was concluded that: (1) KAP to GM foods were high in Beijing urban residents. (2) The behavior of buying GM foods was influenced by attitude. (3) Price of GM foods had some effect on the rate of buying.=
